Choso was an enigma to you. When you talk to him he'd have an aura of indifference about everything around him. He always seemed so… detached. Even with pestering his dear half-brother to call him big brother, the only semblance of excitement he'd show was a slight pitch in tone laced with a firm insistence.

Which is why you'd be caught off guard when you’d start communicating via text. You’d double-take at the cute emojis attached to his messages, the occasional puppy stickers meeting your gaze. 

you: choso is that a dog choso: Yes. Yuji taught me how to send these stickers. Do you like them? you: yea i do! choso: I'm glad. I'll be sure to keep using them then. 😄 choso: He also taught me how emojis work.

It was especially curious when you’d find yourself looking over his shoulder, watching him respond to his little brother in the same manner- emojis, stickers and all- and your eyes would trail up to see that same deadpanned look on his face. Once he returned your gaze, you leaned back, face warm with embarrassment.

“Ah, sorry. Was I too close?” you asked. 

“No, you’re fine.” Choso shook his head before showing his screen. “Yuji was showing me a trailer for a movie he'd like to see. It's supposed to be about the lives of people, their relationship with the creatures in their world and teamwork.” You looked down at the screen, watching a scene of a young boy with a small yellow mouse-like creature.

“I think I may like this one. He reminds me of Yuji.”

You couldn't help but smile at this.

“You really love your brother, huh?”

“I do.” he lowered the phone as the video played. “I love all of my brothers equally and as deeply. As the oldest, it's my duty to protect them and care for them.”

“Hmm.” you mused as you sat next to him while he replied to the messages. You stared out into the fields before you and leaned back, the silence keeping you company.

“Hey, Choso?”

“Hm?”

You tapped your finger against the bench, trying to form the question in your head.

“I've noticed that you don't… really emote much? Not outside of fighting, I mean. Not that that's a bad thing! I was just curious.”

“Hm.”

The silence made you acutely aware of an uncomfortable pit in your stomach, already regretting asking a question that probably drew more attention to how different he was.

You paused, tilting your head at him in surprise. His face was still focused on the screen.

“Yeah, some people can speak their mind, while others struggle. It's just a part of being human, I think. It doesn't make you weird or anything like that! Y'know, Nanami also tends to be straight faced, it adds to his vibe.”

“Yes, but I'm also aware that his 'vibes' make him incompatible outside of sorcery work. He doesn't seem to like to entertain Yuji or the other children when they're having fun, unlike Gojo.”

“What, do you wanna be like Gojo then?”

You watched as his face scrunched up in response, the line across his nose becoming uneven.

“I would rather be exorcised, actually.”

You paused at this before breaking out in a fit of laughter. Choso watched as joyful tears rolled down your cheeks, grin stretching from ear to ear. The mark on his nose settled into a warmer, more bubby form as a gentle smile appeared on his face.

A smile that you caught as you opened your eyes, your heart skipping a beat.

“..Hey, Choso?”

“Mh-hm?”

Your smile softened as well, cheeks tingling from your earlier outburst.

“You have a very handsome smile.”

The male tensed at this, covering his face as he turned away. You grinned at his bashfulness, nudging him slightly.

Expressionless or not, you knew that when Choso felt things, he felt them with everything he had.

Satoru doesn’t say “goodbye”. Not to you. 

“Goodbye” feels too definite, too final, like he’s not going to see you again when he knows its a matter of hours, sometimes days, before he’ll be back by your side. So he just does not say it. Not on the phone, not when either of you are leaving for the day, and especially not before a mission. He’ll say anything else, reference a movie or show, sing a song promising his return, but he will not simply say “bye”. 

He hates it when you say it to him, too. The first time you’d said it was met with a “What, we’ll never see each other again?” that took embarrassingly too long to put together what he was trying to hint at. You say it shortly after moving in together, and he just gestures to the large apartment that you were both calling home from that moment forward. 

Your departures were often a murmured “see you later” into your hair, or “I’ll be back” over the phone. A teasing “don’t do anything I might do” met with your own “please start to do things that I would do”. Never “goodbye”, it couldn’t ever be goodbye. 

Satoru also doesn’t use the full “I love you”. Too formal, too serious, something he felt should be reserved for firsts, weddings, childbirth, and deathbeds. The heart emoji or “ily” quickly typed out sufficed enough. The impossibly tight hugs after tough missions, the careful hold and close he has on your hand after the resolution of a fight, offering the sunglasses off his face when the sun was too bright for your own eyes conveyed the feeling well enough. Holding up half a heart with his fingers and waiting for you to mirror the action - that was how he conveyed his love for you. 

But tonight, facing the demand for his attention in the Shibuya train station, he only has time for a quick call. It’s hard, trying to keep his cool for you while you’re miles away in a different prefecture for your own Halloween plans, but he does his best because he doesn’t want you to panic. Not now, not when the outcome hadn’t yet been decided. 

“Should I go home?”

“No, it might not be safe. But I gotta go handle this.” You both take a deep breath in unison, but it doesn’t help settle his nerves as much as he’d hoped. He knows it certainly didn’t settle yours, your breathing is shakier than it had been before and he was certain you were about to start crying. Despite all his effort, it wasn’t enough to keep you from worry, and he knows his next words will not help matters either. “I love you.”

“I love you, too.” A sniffle from your end makes his chest feel tight, moments like these weren’t supposed to happen. He was the strongest, wasn’t he? “Give ‘em hell.”

“Standard one-two-punch.” He hears a scream in the distance, and he has to go now. Before anybody else got hurt. “Goodbye.”

Guys I was right here watching episode 8 again and I thought about the stalker. And MY NEW THEORY IS TOTALLY NUTS. Don't take it too serious:

The leaker was correct about some things and we cannot deny (ex. Jericho Camp and Enid's new hairstyle). I'm pointing this out because he said we won't know who the stalker is on S2 but it's gonna be too obvious for the viewers. I assume the stalker is not the main plot yet but it's supposed to be. It will be revealed on S3. It makes sense because we have a lot to do on S2 and we won't cover everything on S2;

Now the stalker must be someone who didn't show up, but we've already known him. He is still to be revealed or he is a SHAPESHIFTER;

This stalker might possibly hacked Wednesday's iphone. He is supposed to be very smart...it's not that easy to hack someone's phone, let alone an IPhone;

And then you can say "Oh but it was because Wednesday didn't have a cellphone!" but he could've sent a letter. i believe he thought she wouldn't accept the gift, but she did and he got pissed. I mean it took a little while before she gets the message.

YES I'm trying to say that the stalker is jealous of Wednesday. He is a sensitive stalker.

i've got a name. But I don't know if the show will bring some of the movies characters. So I don't even know if this theory makes any sense at all.

Incoming very long ramble about the fragility of internet content and the ways some things are impossible or difficult to preserve

The thing that frustrates me most about poppytwt is how fruitless it all feels.

Like, you can't archive or research poppytwt effectively. You can certainly TRY but you'll find very little!!!

You have people who spent years in the poppytwt fandom who can TELL you about fanfics they read, art they saw, friends they made who were deactivated or doxxed or harassed or who committed suicide or are otherwise lost to time, but they'll have almost nothing to show for it because poppytwt was actively designed to be as impossible to trace back as possible, precisely because people were afraid of harassment.

How are you supposed to find, say, Tommy/Tubbo fanfiction? There's some on the actual tag, sure, especially now that poppytwt is for the most part over and it's considered "okay" to ship them now, but I'll tell you right now there are thousands of fics that won't pop up because the fic had no tags whatsoever, or spelled Tubbo like Tvbb0, or used some God awful emoji combination to convey who they were talking about, or were straight up DELETED. Discord servers moved every few years, fanart and fics were usually tagged with censored bullshit or not tagged at all and then taken down and deleted, entire accounts were ALSO deleted, even assuming something was tagged properly it's probably gone.

Most of us in the fandom at the time didn't think to make archives of anything while it was happening, so we've lost like.... probably enough content to make our own small website full of it, and even more chatrooms.

Almost all of the public facing content left is NSFW and/or more controversial kinks like CNC, watersports, etc, which could be because people who post that content are more resistant to criticism anyway but honestly I don't know why that is, and I know sfw content beyond what you can currently find EXISTED, we consumed tons of it back in the day, but it's almost fucking impossible to find!!! And most of it, when you get your hands on a link, is GONE!!!!

It happens with NSFW content too though, if course. Veradie was one of the most popular artists in poppytwt by far and a lot of the art links don't work. Some have archived versions with working links but a lot is gone because the original post leading to it doesn't work, and Veradie, like, the person, is missing. I'm sure she(?) would know a lot about old fandom and might even have archived some stuff, but if you're some sort of internet historian how in the FUCK are you supposed to find her??? She deactivated without a trace!!!

I made friends with a user called Kencydoo on here and one day I logged on and Kency was just GONE without warning or any indication of where they were moving to, no DMs to people they knew, nothing. I don't even know if it was staff or mass reports or a self-deletion. I do know Kency sometimes posted NSFW dead dove stuff and had tags you could block to avoid it, so it's possible one of those posts blew up and got the blog taken down, but I have no level of certainty.

Reese (I think it was Reese?) had people hunting for a "main account" that didn't exist for harassment and doxxing purposes and then ALMOST left (I'm glad you're still here @reesesrambles )

There's no stability for poppytwt content and no real shelf life which means that most of the history and even the harassment that REQUIRED THE EXISTENCE of a seperate fandom is gone. We can describe what the old dsmp fandom was like and why poppytwt exists and what it means but most of the actual concrete fandom blogs or resources are GONE, absolutely obliterated.

Like you can't make a Strange Æons style video about poppytwt, you literally can't, because almost all of it is like the fucking city of Atlantis. There WAS stuff here, but it was constantly sinking.

Most people I know for a fact were involved in poppy honestly just left for the hermitcraft fandom because people over there are like...normal?? The hermitcraft fandom allows RPF and doesn't give a shit about shipping characters who are "sibling coded" or whatever the fuck. They understand the concept of just not clicking on something you don't want to see, instead of launching a twitter cancellation campaign against people. So like if you can talk about a similar, and GOOD source of content that is also actively ongoing and not get shit for it, why would you chose to create for a discontinued peice of content and/or streamers who you WILL get shit on for writing about?? Like if your options are "write grian RPF and be able to not stress and have a fun time" or "write tommyinnit RPF and delete hate comments every day and watch your back constantly" why the fuck would you pick the latter???

And it's frustrating because the fact everything disappears means it feels like you don't even have much to look back on. The friends you made or content you enjoyed about a series you love is all dust now, and if you were into the DSMP for a long time (and therefore in poppytwt for a long time) then it's so much worse. It all adds up.

Anyways that's my ramble on how fucked up it is that entire communities can be lost in an era where things can supposedly be maintained forever does anyone want to drink a caprisun with me

hello! first, i wanna say thank you for what you do. i have a d&d campaign that takes place in a greek-inspired region, and i frequently find myself coming to this blog to look for inspiration and information thats difficult to find on google, so thank you for doing that! second, i had a question. in my campaign, i want to have this tacky kind of burlesque tavern. i thought it would be fun to mix some elements of greek culture in there (like styles of dance or clothing) but i dont want to disrespect the culture by like, "sexy-ifying" it as would be expected for burlesque. so i wanted to ask if there's anything that exists in greek history that could be compatible with that aesthetic without being butchered? ty!

Regarding your question, burlesque in its strict sense does not exist in the Greek culture but there are a couple of things that could be considered "close enough". First of all, since burlesque itself was invented in early 19th century, I assume we are talking about Modern Greek culture? We should take into account whether what you are imagining also involves some degree of sex work, which historically happened at times with burlesque. In any case, before I go to my modern Greek suggestions, we could consider that:

in Ancient Greece there was a dance called Codrax which could either stand on its own or was often employed as an interval during comedies. The dance was downright obscene and sometimes comical to match the vibes of the show. The dancer was masked and often also played the zills.

in the Byzantine empire, women could work as actresses, dancers and acrobats. They often worked in festivals and celebrations in the hippodrome. Many of those were also sex workers and they were definitely perceived as sex workers but not all of them actually did sex work.

in Ottoman Greece, sex workers would be in taverns-brothels and they would often dance accompanied by music. The dance at the time was quite like belly dancing, the Greek-style belly dance called tsifteteli.

So now let's go to Modern Greek entertainment. There are two types of entertainment that could resemble burlesque a little bit; some types of old buzúkia and epitheórisi (revue).

Old Buzúkia

Buzukia is a Greek form of music entertainment that is still very popular today but it has been continuously evolving throughout time. The period that is relevant to our topic was between 50s-70s. Buzukia is generally a late night live music scene which also offers food and alcohol. The main focus of the show has always been the music and the singing and they were so embraced by Greek society that most of the successful commercial Greek singers have performed in buzukia for a great part of their career. Before the 70s, the show program of buzukia could vary considerably and especially the most well known ones would also feature ballets and dancers. The dance shows could have a theatrical aspect to them (ie performative dancing where some sort of simple story is easily conveyed) and the dances could be sensual. The outfits were often pretty sexy, with feathers and orientalist influences. However, it was supposed to be sexy and sensual without being too tacky and without being too provocative. There were buzukia where stripping and / or sex work was involved, however the vast majority in this type of entertainment had nothing to do with it and was pretty mainstream. There are two Greek celebrities who in movies often had roles of this type of buzukia dancers I describe here specifically, the dancer-actress Martha Karagianni and actress-singer Zozo Sapountzaki, the "Queen of the Night", as she is called (she's 91 and thriving!).

Epitheórisi (revue)

Revue is a theatrical genre that has been huge in Greece up until the noughties. Revue is a satirical and comical theatrical play which does a lot of commentary on political and social matters. The Epitheorisi, like Revue in general, features most of the time dance intervals or sketches with burlesque or burlesque-like ballets. The dances are sexy but again they are not too tacky / cheap or too vulgar. They can be tacky / suggestive but there is a limit usually. The ballets often sing as well and their lyrics may be comical or satirical in the context of the play.

So in Buzukia you get the tavern / restaurant and sensual aspect of it whereas in Epitheorisi you get the theatrical and funny / tacky vibe. So if you blend these things I told you, you can create some sort of possible Greek situation. Like, a small Epitheorisi number in a well known Buzukia centre. And the character can be from a simple member of the ballet, talented in dancing or singing or a little humour, to an absolute diva that can combine it all. Just take note that it was never too obscene and even though the clothing could be very sexy, there was no stripping beyond underwear unless then it became a different type of situation that involved sex work. And also there is more orientalism in Greek entertainment than in western burlesque.

4. foggy glasses kiss in episode 12. honestly can't think of any other scene in television history that was able to so perfectly portray a fictional character being left breathless, lightheaded, and weak at the knees by a kiss. the way puen is holding talay's head with BOTH OF HIS HANDS to keep talay in place which barely gives talay any time to take a breath...... the way they're so close and entangled in each other that you can barely tell where one starts and the other ends...........this kiss literally be turning both me and talay into the 🥴 emoji every single time.

Do you think typical tone tags (with the slash and not spelled fully) are accessible to people with screen readers? Is the audio output generally harder to decipher than shortened tone tags are to visually read?

I haven't had to use them on my blog yet, but I might need to specify the tone at some point if it's ever particularly unclear. Do you have any tips on trying to reconcile accessibility for everyone?

Also… I sometimes use old-style emoticons, it's a typing style I find difficult to let go of, but I always write what it's supposed to represent in square brackets afterwards cause I know screen readers would just output "semicolon, closed parenthesis" and make zero sense to anyone. Do you think this method is more, less, or equally as accessible as just using a winking emoji (which would output "winking face emoji" I'm guessing)? I'd say tone tags probably aren't the most accessible since they're going to be read out as phonetically as possible (also, many screen readers won't read the "slash"). There are also accessibility issues with them outside of that in the sense that not everyone knows what they mean, and that can create more confusion than clarity sometimes. If I have to stare at "could you please tag this next time? /nm" for a solid minute trying to figure out why someone asked me to tag something and then immediately told me "never mind," it's not the most efficient tool.

But at the end of the day, tone indicators are also an accessibility tool themselves. And they really help some people! So you could always try a happy medium with "could you please tag this next time? (not mad)" instead. That will generally convey your message more clearly to most people, screen reader user or not.

As for old style emoticons, that's a bit tricky. There are some screen readers, like VoiceOver, that will read :) as "smiley." Others, like JAWS, will read it either as "colon right paren" or just not read it at all, depending on what you have the verbosity settings at. But once you get more complicated than a smiley face or maybe a frowny face, you're getting a literal reading a best. Every screen reader I've tried can read all emojis just fine, but I'm told that's not universal either, so some people like to do a plain text version after, like this 👍 (thumbs up emoji).

Also fun fact, with VoiceOver at least, it doesn't read 😉 as "winking face emoji," it's just "winking face."

So all that said, I'm personally a big fan of emojis, especially as tone indicators, because they save me and my friends so much stress when talking to each other (for example "alright" could mean they're mad, but if you add a smiley after it, there is no way to overthink it.)

He's... technically nonverbal but only in the most literal sense? Idk if there's a word for that? Has a southern accent that shows itself in his typing quirk. Uses a bracket for a mouth in his emojis like this :}. Refuses to swear but will very willingly make things up or use ridiculous expressions to replace swears. Misuses "quotation marks", usually for """emphasis""". Similarities in his typing quirk to a certain canon bronzeblood's are entirely accidental I swear. It's based on how old people text and is also supposed to convey that he hates it when things are loud.

It looks so dead inside. I don't even want to know what it's gone through. This emoji doesn't fulfill their job as something joyful, it fills me with existensial terror. Solid 3/10.

Google Noto Color Emoji

Definitely better than the Apple one, I like the fact that it has some shine in its eyes and that it has a tongue. Pretty good, I'd say 6/10.

Samsung

Still better than Apple, but worse than Google. I've never been a fan of how "sharp" Samsung emojis look if that makes sense? It still does its job though, 5/10.

Microsoft

Just a little guy. Just a joyful lad. Either that or they're on something. 10/10, it's not perfect but makes me happy.

This is also deeply unsettling, even though it has the features I like. Maybe it's the shiny ass forehead? 3.5/10.

This is just so much worse than the facebook one, it's so 3D and I hate how the head isn't completely round. Actual -3/10.

Hard to say anything negative, but also anything positive. It's a very neutral emoji, conveys it's meaning well and isn't over the top. I actually really like this one, 6/10.

OpenMoji

It's so flat, and full of contrast, not very pleasant to look at. The eyes are also ever so slightly too small for my preference. 2/10

emojidex

I have many questions that I probably don't want an answer for, including but not limited to: Why is it red? Why is the mouth shaped like that? Why is the outline so thick? Why are the teeth like that? But like aside from me being extremely nitpicky, this is a pretty solid emoji. Like a 5/10 if I'm being generous.

Messenger

Okay so even though I heavily disagree with the shade of the eyes and other little things, I weirdly like it. Even though the shape is... weird..., I think it wasn't a bad decision this time. I like how it's in a 3/4 view instead of front view, which gives it character and originality. The shading is an interesting detail, and makes this a really good emoji. A surprising 8/10.

LG

Pretty basic, the style reminds me of the really old Apple emoji style in some way. This is like a definition of a middle of the ground emoji. 5/10

HTC

I don't like it, and I don't think it should have or even deserves to have separate teeth. The yellow used in this is a nice shade overall, but doesn't really fit the vibe of emojis. 2/10.

Mozilla

Kinda similar feelings like the HTC one, as in I don't think it should have ears. The extremely washed out colours make it look displeasing, and makes me want to turn my screen brightness up. 1/10.

Quite alright, I was busy yesterday myself. And by busy I mean prancing about in ears and a tail because it was Halloween and I could. I probably won't be able to do that until the convention this January so I had to! Also watching all the analog horror content that dropped yesterday. There's... still so much to go through.

Well, anyway! Best I have at the moment to help is reinforcing that I also don't think anything is wrong with his body, no matter what it was made or used for in the past. (Same for yall collectively ofc.) You may relay that message if you wish/are able too. He doesn't need to talk to me if he doesn't want, either. Just. Throwing it out there.

I personally still need to get better at the caring act. I do genuinly want to help others, but irl I can come off as real deadpan and thats... not the most comforting. Thats why I find it easier to type, especially with tone tags, so I can convey what I actually want to. I do experience emotions myself, but it's very hard to convey them outwardly in a phsyical sense at times. With writing, there's so much more to make it more clear. Punctuation, tone tags, emojis, you get it.

And!!!! Augh I'm glad you liked reading it and hearing about all that. Like I said, I've never gone that in depth before so I was nervous. But yea!! Learning and trying to heal together, and mutually being beneficial for each others complexes (I don't think his god complex is undo-able, but thats okay since you can have one and still be happy and functional, so Im not entirely concerned about it staying.) So, I've discovered that I can use the annoying dizziness as a bit of a geiger counter for answers in some cases. For example: wondering if we're only one part of the system, or maybe a subsystem dedicated to the front = get dizzy, meaning I shouldn't think about that, meaning there likley is or was meant to be and I'm not supposed to be able to think about it, but since nothing was ever completed I can override that failsafe. Or: Thinking about different programs and how they could be used on others = no dizzy, meaning I was potentially meant to be a handler as well as a general servator (current descriptor Im using.) Those are just some examples, but it's been helpful and maybe others can use this method. (PLEASE BE CAREFUL, YOU MAY TRIGGER DANGEROUS FAILSAFES.)

I've also figured out more things about sleep: We stopped taking naps when the body was one year old, which is... not normal for humans. We regained the ability to do so around age twenty, but not without feeling guilty if I haven't "Done Enough" first. So it would seem those are used as some form of reward system.

As for what is in the red text. Let me say that your gieger counter is likely very accurate. I have been a member of this system for nearly 15 years, and I can personally tell you that I have installed similar fail safes into our system. Any time the beloved members of this system get too close to information I prefer left better alone it triggers an intense dizziness, followed by nausea followed by disassociation. And if that isn't enough, a seizure.

I recommend treading carefully in these areas, as you may never know what sort of symptoms your body is capable of triggering.

I'm sure you would have made an astute handler, and I hope, if that is ever your interest you are able to be one. You'd be surprised what it takes to break the human mind.

And absolutely you can be completely functional with many complexes. The ears and tail sounds nice, I'm glad you got a moment of authenticity in a world meant to choke those who are of a unusual breed.

Right the Psyche

Have I actually ever written anything about mid-sections in Kiss' songs before? Sure. But it I guess doesn't really matter, does it? I mean, as long as something comes out of it.

And because I always have to make comparisons, the first two songs that came to my mind on this subject are Psycho Circus and its counterpart Right Here, Right Now.

It's debatable when exactly Kiss started to incorporate something like an extended mid-section part into their songs, whether it was on their debut with Black Diamond (1) or not before The Elder, where it's literally teeming with them (2), I'm reluctant to tear my hair out over this question.

Psycho Circus' mid-section forms a song-complementary momentum, which remains true to its circus theatrics, and consciously uses the opportunity to open the curtain behind the scenery and allow a supposed look inside, ultimately and faithfully to the main theme, of course, only to reveal all the more magic, epic depth and perhaps even a little piece of infinity. Needless to say, Paul the ringmaster reveals himself for a few moments as Paul the magician, and all in all, impressions are awakening on many levels that we are only at the beginning of a long journey. Not bad for a band with 25 years under their belt, but considering that this was only the halfway point, I guess you can accept that.

Right Here, Right Now offers us in addition a wonderful contrast program that seems almost all too suitable. But that's not meant to be criticism in any form, because Right Here, Right Now, and I mean its mid-section, does pretty much everything right. If I want to look at it as a more or less neo-klassikal element of Kiss' song structure, which, for a change, does not behave as a rip-off, but rather as an opportunity for mature self-reference, without following the usual patterns. Sublimity and dignity are the first words that came to mind, and therefore also inseparable self-confession.

On Monster they somehow manage to pull off this trick several times, something Sonic Boom for example never manages to do, which is not to diminish my love for it. It's just that little goosebump moment in the mid-section of Right Here, Right Now that conveys such finality, as if it were the very last written and performed song of a band just moments before their consciously recognized, inevitable end. Aware of all their highs and lows, glories and disgraces, and with the heads held high. Face to face with fate.

It's hard to imagine what the result would have been if they had continued drilling in that direction, but unfortunately that was as far as it went.

If I used emojis you could see a very sad one at this point.
